What makes a good crossword solver?
There are dozens of websites and apps that work for this. However, the vast majority are quite simple. The best ones include modern references and possibly even pop culture fixes alongside the usual. Every app and website on this list can do the basics and at least a bit more. Also, all of the crossword solvers on this list are either free, free with ads, or have a one-time bonus. There are no signatures here!
Given the amount of information that can change and the number of new solutions with new crossword puzzles each week, it is not possible to keep track of everything. However, most of these apps should work for most tracks.
For the iOS portion of this list, all apps should work on both iOS and iPad unless otherwise noted.
Crossword solver for Android
anagram solver
Preis:Free / $3.99

Joe Hindy / Android Authority
Anagram Solver does two different things. Solves anagrams and also helps with crossword puzzles. It supports spaces, so you can search for almost any word as long as you know at least part of it. Also, the app has word definitions, various hints and tips, and some additional features. It is a relatively simple app and works both as an anagram solver and as a crossword solver.

Help solving crossword puzzles
Preis:libre

Crossword Clue Solver can help you solve crossword puzzles in two different ways. The first is a search for clues. Just type the track to get ideas. The other way is similar to how most of these crossword solvers work. Just type the letters you know and point to the letters you don't, and the app guesses the words from there. It uses an online database, so there is no offline support. Otherwise, the app is free and ad-supported.
Havos Crossword Solver
Preis:Free / $2.49

Crossword Solver is an unimaginative name, but it seems to work just fine. The app offers nearly 200,000 proper nouns along with virtually every word in the dictionary. That should help you find more stuff than usual. In addition, there are several filters to narrow down the list of possibilities, five puzzle-solving modes, and even some foreign language words. The user interface looks dated, but it's easy to use. The pro version of this app seems to be much better than the free version. So keep that in mind when you try the free version first.

LithiumApps Crossword Solver
Preis:libre

Crossword Solver by LithiumApps is one of the newer crossword solvers on the list. It has a pretty decent feature set, including over 400,000 words, offline support, and an anagram solver on top of the crossword solving features. Plus, you'll find word definitions and audio pronunciations if you need those things. The user interface is quite simple, although it doesn't look very impressive. It also supports empty or unknown letters. It works offline for most of its features, but you will need the Internet to look up the definitions.
king of crosswords
Preis:Free / $3.99

Crossword Solver King is another one of the most proficient crossword solvers. Contains more than 280,000 words available offline. Plus, it supports missing letters, solves anagrams, and has tons of filters to help you narrow down your search. It also integrates withthis english dictionary offlinefor even more offline functionality. It worked quite well in our tests and is actually the same developer as the previous Anagram Solver. The Pro version removes ads, reduces required permissions to zero, and more.

Crossword solver for iPhone and iPad
Across Lite Crucigrama (iPad only)
Preis:Free with in-app purchases

Across Lite Crosswords is an iPad app for crossword fans. It offers an exceptionally advanced solver along with some real crossword puzzles. There are plenty of filters, blank card support, and other tools to help you narrow things down as much as possible. Also, the app comes with left-handed and right-handed support and some other cool features. You can use it as a solver, but the developer says it might not work for puzzles not formatted with Across Lite.
anagram solver
Preis:Free / $2.99

Joe Hindy / Android Authority
Anagram Solver is mainly for solving anagrams and games like Words With Friends and Scrabble. However, one of the features includes crossword solvers along with some features. It has over 280,000 offline words, multi-word support, blank letter support, and a variety of filters to refine your search results. The crossword solver is primarily an extension of the anagram solver with support for more spaces. So you probably won't be able to use just that. Still, it's very good at what it does and the price is relatively cheap.

The crossword and anagram solver
Preis:Gratuito / US$ 1,99 a US$ 2,99

The crossword and anagram solver is not the most unique name, but it is an effective application. It works very similar to the Anagram Solver above. You type your letters along with the spaces, and you're presented with a set of possible word matches. The app also supports anagram decoding, iOS dark mode, and you can view word definitions in the app. Anagram stuff requires a $1.99 in-app purchase, or you can get it and remove ads for a one-time payment of $2.99. Like the anagram solver above, it's a useful tool, but you probably won't find all the answers you need.
crossword solver
Preis:Free / $0.99

Crossword Solver is a simple and basic application. It's from Havoc, the same developer as the Android app above. Therefore, it shares many of the same characteristics. This includes more than 200,000 proper names, places, movies, books, songs, and other pop culture references. Plus, there are 150,000 synonyms, support for empty or missing letters, and support for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and, surprisingly, Latin. It doesn't work very well with the puzzle hints, but it can help you fill in the gaps with better ones.

Help solving crossword puzzles
Preis:libre

Crossword Clue Solver is one of the few crossword solvers for iPhone and iPad that actually works with clues. You can type parts of the clue to see different words, and it still does the missing word search like everyone else. The user interface is clean and efficient, but that also means that the app lacks a lot of extra features. However, it gets the job done and is free to download.

Website Crossword Solver
heaven crossword
Preis:libre

Crossword Heaven is an excellent, if basic, site for solving crossword puzzles. The app includes links to crossword puzzles from the Washington Times, New York Times, LA Times, and USA Today. We assume that you tune your crossword solver for these specific crosswords. The site is very easy to navigate with simple banner ads that never seem too intrusive. You can look for clues and write the parts of the answer you know using the space. It's a good basic site overall.
crossword solver
Preis:libre

Crossword Solver is another simple site that will help you fill in the blanks nicely. This one also works well as an anagram solver if you need one of those. You choose how many letters the word has and fill it in with the letters you already know. The site will provide a list of possible words. If you use the tabs at the top, you can also use the Track Database section to search for tracks, although this has been hit or miss in our experience. It's a solid and competent site for quick help with crossword puzzles.
Diccionario.com
Preis:libre

Dictionary.com offers much more than just dictionaries, as we were surprised to discover while researching this article. The official website has a whole section dedicated to word games, including a cheat section for Words With Friends and Scrabble, as well as some crossword solvers. You type the clue and tell the engine the known letters. It then tries to guess from there, along with a percentage, how sure the site is of your answer. It's a bit tricky until you get used to it. For example, not only do you know thatThe author of Pet Cematary is Stephen Kinguntil I added some familiar letters to his name. So it takes some work, but it does work with the clue hunt if you're patient enough.
Google search
Preis:libre

We know Google Search is a ridiculously obvious answer, but that doesn't make it suddenly a bad thing. You can search for all sorts of pop culture references, tips, and other tips to help yourself. It's also great for oddly vague clues, as well as obvious ones you just can't remember. Of course, you can use Google search to find other crossword solvers for almost any platform. In fact, we use it a lot when researching potential candidates for this very list.
Word games
Preis:libre

Wordplays is a decent site for solving crossword puzzles and solving anagrams. It performs better than average, though we wish it had better pop culture support. Either way, simply enter key keywords and letters you already know to see a list of possible answers. Also, you can find an answer on the website and find some clever clues for your crossword sculptors. It should work reasonably well for simpler answers and most non-proper names.
