Three ways to make a temporary cast without crocheting (2023)

There are many ways to create a temporary montage, but the result is always the same: the boundary of the montage isn't really a "boundary", but a series of open points that we can capture later.

Many of the shapes include a crochet hook, but not all knitters have one or like to use one. In this tutorial, I'll show you three ways to make a temporary pattern using only yarn and knitting needles.

Although we don't have to transfer stitches from the yarn when using a circular needle, I don't like having an extra circular needle hanging around the work when I have more than a dozen rows to do. In this case, I prefer to wrap my stitches around a piece of yarn.

This is my personal preference and doesn't mean you don't want to use a circular needle instead of thread when casting. Try it and decide for yourself.

1. At the end of the working row, make a slipknot and put the loop on a knitting needle. Grab the needle in your right hand.

1. Tie a slip knot and place it on a knitting needle. Hold the needle, the end of the thread and the excess thread in your right hand.

2. Slide your left index finger and thumb between the working thread and the residual thread so that the working thread is on your left index finger and the residual thread is on your left thumb. Hold the two wires with the rest of your left fingers like we do when using the long tail rig.

3. Move the needle under the excess thread and take the working thread from right to left. Then move the needle away from the residual thread to turn the loop of thread into a new stitch.

4. Now move the needle again to pick up the working thread from right to left. This round will be our next trick.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 to assemble more points.

WAY No. 3
